Here's a simple modification that can help fix Gambit's look.
Gambit is one of those figures that you force yourself to love. The figure has a great sculpt detail, and the character himself is loved by many collectors. However, it's also know to many that this figure suffers from the lack of height compared to other figure in the line. It's a bit forgivable since this body mold came from the early XMO line. As we all know, modern bucks have been much bigger than the 3.75" standard size. This being the 2nd Gambit, I wished Hasbro updated his buck, but being as cheap as they are, they just reissued the same body mold, with a new head and paint app.
Look how small Gambit is beside Rogue! Shame..

So I decided to attempt and give him more height and articulation, by simple replacing the lower leg with a newer mold such as the 2-pack Bullseye one. With that, it did give the figure a much taller height while giving it an ankle rocker articulation for dynamic poses!
old height on the left, the moded one on the right. |
As you can see, he's now taller than Rogue which makes it look right! With the height being fixed, I also decided to remedy his "short-thumbed/ thumbless" right hand for him to be able to hold his stick much better.
Was also suppose to do a sculpt on the new lower leg, but just decided to go ahead and paint it with a metallic silver-ish look to match his knee.
Even with just a plain paint app on his legs, I do admit it still looks good for me! A simple lower leg swap made a whole lot of difference to the figure's appeal. And look! He's about as tall as the Cyclops mold! The ankle rocker is an added bonus as well, making his poses look cooler! And the new hand makes it easier for him to hold his stick, which was a pain for me when he keeps dropping it on my display shelf.
