REVIEW: Capt. Marvel (Carol Danvers)

From Ms. Marvel, to CAPTAIN Marvel! Here's Carol Danvers from the newly rebranded Marvel Legends Series Wave 1.

I'm so glad to have gotten this set early from Kramer: Toy Warden (story here). To start off, I just don't know how or what to call this line anymore. The rebranding to "Legends" makes it more confusing! So I'd probably stick to calling them MUs or 4 inch Legends.

We finally got Carol Danvers in her current look in the comics as Capt. Marvel. To be honest, I was skeptical when it was announced back in 2010, that she'd be taking the role of a female Capt. Marvel as I always see her as Ms. Marvel. But upon reading a few issues of the Avengers from Marvel Now, it kinda grew on me and started to love this depiction of her. It also is timely, as a planned Capt. Marvel movie is set to be released in the future!

Here's the rest of the assortment for 2016 Mavel Legends Series Wave 1.

x1 Black Panther, x1 Capt. Marvel, x1 Yondu, x1 Spider-man, x1 Iron Man, x1 Spider-man Noir, x1 Triton, x1 Ulik

With this figure, they went with the unmasked version and short, fauxhawk hairstyle. Though it was shown that they'd be also be producing the masked one with the return of 2-packs. I hope they just packed in an alternate masked head like what they did to the Chameleon figure. I see no point in getting the masked one and having two figures displayed.

Where did I acquire it?: Kramer Toy Warden
How much?: Set of 5 Php 3,500
Condition during acquisition: MOC

Packaging:
I definitely love the new packaging! The old one from the infinite series looks so generic and dull. Glad to have the individual character's art on each of the card back giving it more personality! Loving the artistic photo of the figure at the back as well.

Sculpt:

+ Great hair and headsculpt
+ Reuse of Psylocke's sash fits the figure well.

Paint:

+ Love the red and blue tone that they used.
+ Clean paint application on lines and her insignia.
+ None to minimal paint splotches.
-  Just a bit derp-eyed

        Articulation:

It uses the standard female body from the Infinite Series, with the likes of Black Cat. I guess we have to be accustomed to the trimmed down articulation especially with these newer molds. I just wished they retained a wrist swivel, and either a torso/waist swivel would also have helped in posing her. Still glad that ankle rockers are still there to say the least.

          Size Comparison:
MU Ms. Marvel (head swapped) | MLS Capt. Marvel | MU Ms. Marvel (Warbird)

MIS Black Cat | MLS Capt. Marvel | MIS Shanna

MU Capt. Marvel | MLS Capt. Marvel

          Overall Grade

It was really a surprise, that this set came early for me as it was only last week that images of the packaging popped on the net. Capt. Marvel is definitely one the must haves for me in this wave. This would probably be the chase figure in this wave especially with the standalone movie being planned for the MCU.

Figure wise, obviously it's a step down from the MU quality that we've known and love, but the figure itself isn't that bad. It has a decent sculpt, and great paint application overall! The articulation might be a bummer, but you could still do some pretty nice poses for her. An added alternate masked head would definitely have been great. Other than that, it's definitely a figure to have.

          Accessories - N/A
          Sculpt - 4.5/5
          Paint - 4/5
