REVIEW: Marvel's Hawkeye (Movie Series)

Since the release of the movie Avengers toyline, I've been on the fence on whether to pick it up or not since the articulation of the figures are said to be limited, and the increase of price makes it even more unappealing to me. I was really controlling the urge of completing the Avengers lineup, especially after watching the movie which is AWESOME! though I didn't mind getting the comic series figures from the toyline. I bought Ultimate Hawkeye once I saw it on the peg of a local retail store (review to follow). I don’t know but there’s just something about his character that I really like specially after watching Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I can officially say that I am a Clint Barton fan hands down. With that being said, with the announcement of the movie version Hawkeye, Black Widow and Skrull being released during an event here in the Philippines, there’s no way I’m not getting a Jeremy Renner figure (and Black Widow is just to good to pass on too.)

Where did I acquire it?: World of Heroes Event at Robinsons Place Ermita
How much?: Php 550.00 (approx $11.00)
Condition during acquisition: MOC

Packaging: Nothing much to say about the packaging, it's the standard packaging that we usually see on Marvel's 1:18 figures. Design wise, I'm really digging the style especially the color assignment they gave for each figure (purple for Hawkeye, green for Hulk etc.)

Accessories:

PROS
  • It comes with 2 bows, one regular and the other with the launching arrow gimmick. The good thing is that you can easily detach the launcher on the other bow making it look like the regular one. You can even give it to your Ultimate Hawkeye which doesn't come with any other than a small crossbow which he can't even hold properly. Bummer.
CONS:
  • Hasbro should know by now, that no bow is complete without an arrow.
  • Strings on the bow would really be nice. (don't mind the strings on the photos, I tried to remedy it myself.)
  • No stand included. (Iron Man stand was used in the photo)

Sculpt:

PROS:
  • The headsculpt is spot on. For a small figure, it very much resembles Jeremy Renner, though the shades might have helped.
  • The sculpt on his body is amazing as well. From his arm guards, his snap on upper garment which holds his quiver, the sculpted lines on his side and just about everything is well executed.
CONS:
  • The quiver on his back could have had some arrows sticking out on top.
  • His right leg is a tad shorter than his left.

  • The scale of his head seems a bit big for his body.

Paint:
PROS:

  • The paint on his uniform is perfect with no smudges, bleeding whatsoever.
  • Both SHIELD logos are flawless as well.
CONS:
  • Paint app on his face is kinda thick that it almost washes away his facial features.
  • The skin color of his face and his arms are of different shade.

Articulation:

CONS: Its articulation may just be its major flaw. It would have been nice if we could pose him in a shooting position, or something like him grabbing an arrow from his quiver. Unfortunately it looks awkward, specially without him having the essential POAs. No wrist movement, no torso nor waist articulation, no shin nor ankle movement as well. Hasbro totally wasted the potential of what could have been a great figure.

Size Comparison:
(L-R: Avengers' Ultimate Hawkeye, Avengers' Hawkeye (movie), MU's Hawkeye)

Overall Grade
Overall the figure looks awesome! What could have been an awesome figure was cut short because of its very limited articulation though despite this It's still a great addition  for MU collectors and I'd still recommend you guys to pick it up.
